Factor

Multiplication of two factors creates a product

product = factor · factor

Explanation

The factors can be numbers, but also letters. In the multiplication p = a × b the number a is also called the multiplier and the number b is called the multiplicand.

Example 1

You can factorize a quadratic function to obtain the zeroes

x2 + 2x – 15 = (x – 3)(x + 5)

Example 2

In a falling factorial, the factors are gradually reduced by 1
