Baryon

A baryon is a subatomic particle that consists of three quarks.

 


Explanation

As baryons consist of quarks, they are hadrons. Baryons have half-integer spin, and are thus fermions.

History

The name "baryon" (Greek: heavyweight) was coined in 1953 by Dutch physicist Bram Pais.
