In mathematics, many notions are used to indicate that you can't calculate something.

If every answer is possible you call it indeterminate, as with

1^∞

If there is no solution you call it undefined, as with

∞⁰

If you cannot explain something you can specify it by definition, as with

0⁰ ≝ 1

i² = –1

q* : = a − bi − cj − dk

For a multi-valued function you can determine a principle value, as with

ln (−1) = iπ
