We gaan uit van de goniometrische cirkel.

Uit de stelling van Pythagoras volgt

cos²θ + sin²θ = 1

Voorbeeld 1

Je kunt zien dat cos² (3) + sin² (3) = 1 en cos² (4) + sin² (4) = 1 etc. maar natuurlijk ook cos² (e) + sin² (e) = 1.
