Inertial frame of reference

An inertial frame of reference is a coordinate system in which objects, where no force works on, is standing still or has an unanimous motion along a straight line.

Explanation

In physics, inertial systems are used instead of Newton's "absolute space and absolute time". Thus the special relativity theory treats the space without matter.

History

The German mathematician Ludwig Lange introduced the term inertial system in 1885.
