A square emerges when a number is multiplied by itself

 


Explanation

In school we all had to learn the multiplication tables. There is one more table that you have not learned separately.

0 ×  0 =   0
1 ×  1 =   1
2 ×  2 =   4
3 ×  3 =   9
4 ×  4 =  16
5 ×  5 =  25
6 ×  6 =  36
7 ×  7 =  49
8 ×  8 =  64
9 ×  9 =  81
10 × 10 = 100
11 × 11 = 121
12 × 12 = 144

These squares form a diagonal in the table of Pythagoras.
