Magnon

A magnon is an excitation associated with the spin structure of electrons in a crystal lattice.

Explanation

It is the quantum of a spin wave. Magnons carry a fixed amount of energy and lattice momentum, and are spin 1, indicating they obey boson behavior.

History

This quasiparticle was introduced in 1930 by the Swiss physicist Felix Bloch.
