Pion

A pi meson is a hadron that consists of a quark and an antiquark.

 


Explanation

Pions have spin 0 and are thus bosonic. The pion can be thought of as one of the particles that mediate the interaction between a pair of nucleons.

History

British physicist Cecil Powell found the π-meson in 1947, during experiments with cosmic rays. Japanese physicist Hideki Yukawa (1907 - 1981) had previously predicted this particle.
