Positive number

A positive number can be written with a plus sign, but normally it is omitted.

Explanation

In the UK positive numbers are greater than 0. In Belgium these numbers are called strikt positief (strictly positve). In the UK the number 0 itself is neither positive, nor negative. In Belgium the number 0 is a positive- and a negative number aswell. There, schoolchildren also calculate with +0 and −0 as outcomes. So

               5 − 5 = +0
   and
             −5 + 5 = −0

History

In the book Nine Chapters of the Mathematical Art compiled from the 10th century BC by various Chinese mathematicians, positive numbers are written in red and negative numbers are black.
