Schrödinger equation

The Schrödinger equation describes the state of a quantum system.

Explanation

The most general form of the Schrödinger equation reads

where

    i Imaginary unit
    ℏ Reduced Planck constant
Partial derivative with respect to time
    ψ Wave function
    t Time
    H Hamiltonian operator

History

The Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger postulated this equation for the wave function of a quantum system in 1925.
