Supergravity

Supergravity refers to various theories that explain gravity as a field.

In quantum field theory, one calculates from a hypothetical elementary particle, the graviton. Supergravity also works with symmetric partners, such as a spin 3/2 field, the gravitino.

Daniel Freedman, Sergio Ferrara and Peter van Nieuwenhuizen developed the first theory of supergravity in 1976.
