Leibniz's theorem for differentiation of a product can be written as

For n = 1 the formula reads

and that is of course correct. For n = 2 you get

where the analogy with the binomium of Newton is apparent.

The German mathematician Gottfried Leibniz (1646 - 1716) described this theorem.
