Sierpiński's square

The square of Sierpiński is a fractal.

Explanation

We draw a border around a square. Distortion creates a pattern that can be repeated infinitely.

Phase 0 Phase 1 Phase 2

The enclosed area is getting smaller and smaller, the edge gets ever longer.

History

Polish mathematician Wacław Sierpiński (1882 - 1962) worked on precursors to fractals.
